Ben Picker concentrates his practice in the areas of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He chairs the firm's ten lawyer ADR Practice Group.
Mr. Picker has an active ADR practice, serving both as a mediator and arbitrator in business disputes. He is a member of the Panel of Distinguished Neutrals and the Employment Panel of the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution, a member of the Commercial Arbitration and Mediation Panels of the American Arbitration Association, and a Fellow of both the American College of Civil Trial Mediators and the International Academy of Mediators. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the CPR Institute and the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association.
Mr. Picker has authored Mediation Practice Guide: A Handbook For Resolving Business Disputes(Second Edition) , published in March, 2003, by the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution. This work provides a practical guide to the process of mediation and includes the following topics: suitability of a dispute for mediation; why mediation works or fails; mediator styles, strategies and techniques; how to select a mediator; how to prepare for mediation; role of the client in mediation; overcoming barriers to resolution; and effective negotiations in the mediation session. This volume of 222 pages includes an Appendix of mediation agreements, mediation rules and other related materials.
Mr. Picker has been a lecturer or provided training (in mediations and negotiations) in programs sponsored by the American and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, Practicing Law Institute, Centre for Dispute Resolution (United Kingdom), American Arbitration Association, American Corporiate Counsel Association, Temple University Law School, Villanova Law School and in-house legal departments of numerous corporations throughout the United States.

In litigation, Mr. Picker has represented clients in a wide range of commercial cases, including contract, securities, employment, UCC, product liability and complex commercial matters. He has also had a lead role in the defense of numerous class actions including the Penn Central Securities Class Actions, the market share cases (Skipworth and others) and the One Meridian Plaza Fire Litigation.
