Senator George J. Mitchell is the recipient of the ACCTM 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award. Currently a Partner and Co-Chair of the Government Controversies Practice Group with Piper Rudnick, Washington, D.C., Senator Mitchell has enjoyed a diverse and distinguished career as an officer in the U.S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corps, trial lawyer in the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney for Maine, U.S. District Judge for Maine, U.S. Senator for Maine (including six years as Senate Majority Leader), chairman of the peace negotiations in Northern Ireland, and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Philadelphia Liberty Medal, the Truman Institute Peace Prize, the German(Hesse) Peace Prize and the United Nations (UNESCO) Peace Prize. Senator Mitchell also currently serves as a director of The Walt Disney Company (Chairman), Federal Express, Staples, Inc., and Starwood Hotels & Resorts. He is chancellor of the Queen's University of Northern Ireland, president of The Economic Club of Washington and author of four books. |
