2007 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
                                 John D. Feerick, J.D.

July 16, 2007 - 
     At the annual meeting of The American College of Civil Trial Mediators held at the Broadmoor Resort, Colorado Springs, Colorado, the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Prof. John D. Feerick.  Professor Feerick has been a mediator and arbitrator of many disputes including labor disputes at the Jacob K. Javitz Convention Center, the 1994 transit negotiations in New York City, the National Football League salary cap and in the National Basketball Association. He previously chaired the Ethics Committee of the Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association and a joint committee of the American Bar Association, American Arbitration Association, and the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution that developed a set of ethical standards for mediators of disputes. 

He considers his most important public services to be: participation in the formulation, adoption, and implementation of the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution; service in the United States Army; chairing the New York State Commission on Government Integrity; serving as a Special Deputy New York State Attorney General; chairing the New York State Commission to Promote Public Confidence in Judicial Elections; serving as court-appointed Special Master of Family Homelessness in New York City; serving as a court-appointed judicial referee in the case of Campaign for Fiscal Equity v. New York State. In April, 2007, he was appointed to chair the New York State Ethics Commission and in September, 2007, he will chair the newly created New York State Commission on Public Integrity

Dean Feerick is presently a full-time professor at Fordham Law School and the founder and director of the Feerick Center for Social Justice and Dispute Resolution which provides Fordham Law students an opportunity to work on cutting-edge legal issues critical to the poor and under-represented, with family homelessness being among the center’s most urgent priorities.

In addition to receiving the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award, the College takes great pride in welcoming Prof. Feerick to its membership as Fellow Emeritus.
 



FELLOWS News & Notes

 Fellow, Prof. Robert MoberlyFayetteville, AR,was sworn in August 18, 2006, by Chief Justice Jim Hannah of the Arkansas Supreme Court as Commissioner on the Arkansas Alternative Dispute Resolution CommissionThe Commission, an arm of the Supreme Court, promotes ADR; educates the courts, agencies and general public; establishes standards for certification, professional conduct, discipline and training of ADR neutrals; and develops procedures for disputes subject to ADR.  The Commission is comprised of 7 members who have a demonstrated involvement in ADR, and who are appointed by the Governor, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives.  Professor Moberly, whose term runs until 2011, was appointed by Governor Mike Huckabee.  The Commission meets at least quarterly, and is assisted by a full-time staff and the Supreme Court Administrative Office.

  Fellow, Norman Brand, San Francisco, CA, was recently named a "Northern California Super Lawyer" in ADR.

 Distinguished Fellow, Dr. Joseph B. Stulberg, Columbus, OH,
on the recommendation of the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, has been appointed to hold the John W. Bricker Professorship in Law.   
Professor Stulberg teaches courses primarily in the area of alternative dispute resolution and serves as faculty coordinator of the college’s comprehensive Program on Dispute Resolution. One of the nation’s pre-eminent mediator trainers, Professor Stulberg has, for more than 30 years, shaped the development of community-based and court-annexed mediation programs that address complex civil cases and policy controversies as well as service family, interpersonal, and school-based disputes.

The College extends its sincere congratulations to Professor Stulberg.
