On December 15, 2007, Mr. Taichert retired from his law practice. He will continue in his mediation and arbitration practice as well as serve as Chairman of the Board for the Mind Research Network, an independent foundation studying mental illness.


Mr. Taichert has been an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association with wide experience for more than 30 years. He was the sole arbitrator who awarded the Basic source code to Microsoft in a private, non-administered arbitration between Microsoft and another software company in 1978. He has served as sole arbitrator and on panels with arbitrators in a variety of areas including construction, health care, environmental, insurance, legal, medical and architects malpractice, contracts, pharmaceuticals, computer software, hardware and applications, intellectual property, personal injury, manufacturing, banking, trusts and estates, commercial agreements and real estate. He has also been active as an advocate for clients in mediation and arbitration in a variety of disputes.

Mr. Taichert is a member of the Commercial, Construction, Large Complex Case and Mediation Panels of the American Arbitration Association and a faculty member of the Attorney-Mediator Institute.

Background
Mr. Taichert has been in general law practice since 1956. Significant involvement in health care, including successful defense of landmark medical malpractice cases in New Mexico, representation of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine; general counsel for Presbyterian Healthcare Serices, a multi-hospital system, including corporate, medical staff, construction, non-profit and for profit subsidiaries; acquisition, disposition, reorganization and leasing of public and private hospitals, physician and hospital captive insurance carriers, and representation of physicians and medical practice groups. His practice has also included substantial involvement in construction disputes and litigation involving owners architects, general contractors, subcontractors and materialmen, other representation of owners and contractors and acting for contractor's sureties in performance and payment bond matters, including completion of contracts for housing projects, highways and an earth filled dam and resort. Defense of American Arbitration Association and three neutral arbitrators in ongoing litigation with the New Mexico Attorney General concerning Indian Gaming Compacts. Other work has involved a mix of business and transactional matters, corporate, banking,nonprofit corporations, intellectual property, arbitration, mediation and litigation, including RTC actions against insolvent lenders and their management.

Education/Training
Robert D. Taichert is a native of Sante Fe, New Mexico, a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute, the University of New Mexico, and Harvard Law School.

He served as a naval officer during the Korean War.
