About

Ms. Jernigan focuses her mediation practice on commercial, family business, construction, employment, ERISA, trust and estates, insurance disputes, legal and medical malpractice, and personal injury cases. She is a FINRA arbitrator and also arbitrates commercial, personal injury and employment disputes. She has designed and implemented mediation training courses for the human resource departments of Eckerd Corporation and Orlando Regional Health Care Systems.

Background

Michelle Jernigan was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1982. She maintained a commercial and family law practice until 1987 when she began her mediation career. Ms. Jernigan was one of the first mediators to became Florida Supreme Court certified in 1988. To date she has mediated thousands of cases, specializing in hurricane, ERISA, commercial, construction, personal injury and employment disputes. Ms. Jernigan has been a mediation panelist with Upchurch Watson White and Max since 1992 and became a principal with the firm in 2021. She was a Founding Member, Past President and Director of the Florida Association of Professional Mediators, the first statewide, not-for-profit association of its kind serving Florida’s court certified mediators. Ms. Jernigan has served as an Assistant and Primary Trainer in the Florida Mediator Certification Courses since 1992, has published a number of articles on mediation and is a frequent lecturer in the field of ADR.
Ms. Jernigan is on the Executive Council of the ADR Section of The Florida Bar and has served three terms. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for ACCTM and chairs the Program Committee.
