About

Beginning January 1, 2018, F. Earl Ellis will be conducting a full time mediation practice at Earl Ellis Mediation.

Mr. Ellis joined the firm of Adams and Reese in 2013 as a Partner following the firm’s expansion into Columbia.

Earl was a founding partner of Ellis Lawhorne before the firm merged with Adams and Reese. He has close to 40 years of litigation experience, 20 years of mediation experience and 15 years of arbitration experience, serving as an arbitrator and certified mediator for litigants as they seek to resolve business disputes, navigate dissolution, dispose of complex fee disputes, and adjudicate tort actions.

His mediation experience includes commercial, product liability, medical malpractice, nursing home, and workers’ compensation disputes. Earl is familiar with complex mediations, having conducted weeklong mediations and structured multi-party settlements. With experience in traditional litigation and workers’ compensation, he is adept at resolving cases involving traditional liability and workers’ compensation issues simultaneously and addressing all claims, liens and Medicare set-asides issues in one setting.

Background

Earl was selected “Lawyer of the Year” in Worker’s Compensation Law by Best Lawyers in 2013, and he ranks among South Carolina Super Lawyers, also in workers’ compensation.
Earl has served many of South Carolina’s largest employers – including hospitals and ;vernmental entities – in the area of self-insurance. He is the Former President of the South Carolina Self-Insurers Association.

A member of the South Carolina Bar since 1975, Earl has been a committed, effective leader to the state’s legal community. Earl is a former President of the South Carolina Bar and helped form the Bar’s Workers’ Compensation Section, serving as the section’s first chairman. He is also a Former Chairman of the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates and a former board member of the South Carolina Bar Foundation. In addition, Earl has served as faculty for many continuing legal education seminars and programs.

An avid supporter of the arts, Earl is currently an active member of the board of trustees of the Columbia Museum of Art and has served as president for the Nickelodeon Theater, Columbia Lyric Opera and Columbia Film Society. He has been active on the boards of the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sterling Chamber Players, the Columbia Music Festival Association, and the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties. Earl is a former Senior Warden of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Columbia.

In his spare time, Earl enjoys spending time with his wife, three children and four grandchildren. He also enjoys fly-fishing, hiking in the mountains, traveling and gardening.
