About

Mr. Lightmas has been a mediator, arbitrator and financial, business and commercial trial lawyer for over 47 years. He has argued cases before federal and state appellate courts, tried to final verdict jury and non-jury cases in federal and state courts, tried to final award over 50 cases before a number of different arbitration tribunals and ad hoc panels, and represented parties in contested hearings before federal and state agencies and federal, state and professional licensing, enforcement, regulatory and disciplinary boards and tribunals. He has served as a mediator in over 500 cases in over 25 states and the District of Columbia. Most have been financial, commercial and business cases, and over 90% have settled. He employs evaluative, facilitative and transformative techniques to aid the mediation process and also actively uses evaluative techniques and reality testing approaches to advance the process if appropriate and the parties request. He is also proficient in and has conducted online video mediations using the Zoom platform with parties, counsel and others appearing in multiple locations. He also has served as a neutral arbitrator in approximately 150 cases as a neutral in the areas of general mediation, arbitration and early neutral evaluation. Background

Most of Mr. Lightmas’ cases have involved financial, commercial and business disputes, contracts, corporation, partnership, shareholder, limited liability, joint venture, limited liability and other intra-organizational disputes, securities, commodities and other financial fraud and securities registration violations (1933 Act, 1934 Act, IAA 1940, state blue sky statutes), officers and directors liability, liability of accountants, attorneys and other professionals, employment agreements, covenants not to compete or covenants not to solicit, trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duty claims, tortious interference with contractual relationships, negligence and other torts, claims arising out of the purchase and storage of bitcoin at an online exchange and forked alt-currencies occurring in the blockchain, intellectual property disputes, insurance and insurance coverage issues between insureds and insurance companies, defamation, real estate, education, employment, EEOC and Title VII claims alleging racial, sexual and age discrimination, banking and finance, healthcare, biotechnology, sports and entertainment, environmental actions involving federal claims under CERCLA and state law claims, franchise, technology, trademark, telecommunications, trusts/estates and probate, including estate and inheritance disputes, hospitality and leisure, and transportation and logistics.
