Joseph Stulberg is the recipient of the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award

John W. Bricker Professor of Law;
Professor Stulberg teaches courses primarily in the area of alternative dispute resolution; he directed the College’s nationally-ranked comprehensive Program on Dispute Resolution from 1999-2006 One of the nation’s pre-eminent mediator trainers, Professor Stulberg has, for more than 30 years, shaped the development of community-based and court-annexed mediation programs that address complex civil cases and policy controversies as well as service family, interpersonal, and school-based disputes.

Background

Immediately before coming to Ohio State in 1998, Professor Stulberg was Professor of Law and Director of Advanced Studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law. He has been a guest lecturer at various universities throughout the United States and has taught seminars on conflict resolution and democratic theory at national universities in Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. He has written widely on theoretical, policy and practice issues in dispute resolution.

Professor Stulberg currently serves as a member of the Ohio Supreme Court Committee on Dispute Resolution, Vice Chair of the Mediation Committee of the Section on Dispute Resolution of the ABA, and Reporter for the Joint Committee on the Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators.

The Ohio State University awarded Professor Stulberg its 2003 Faculty Award for Excellence in Community-Based Scholarship to recognize the innovative and extensive ways in which he has integrated student learning with community service.
