Alabama mediator Phillip McCallum utilizes both his private practice and management experience to facilitate problem-solving for individuals and businesses in mediation. Phillip is a Birmingham native. In addition to his extensive mediation practice, Phillip has diverse practice and management experience, having led a successful trial firm whose practice focused on the representation of consumers and businesses in cases including business disputes, class actions, complex litigation, insurance fraud, consumer protection, and employment violations, and worked as a prosecutor. Phillip also recently served as Executive Director of the Alabama State Bar, leading over 18,000 lawyers in the state’s official organization of attorneys.
Phillip is well-known and respected throughout the Bar as a result of his long-time service to the profession, having served as the 137th President of the Alabama State Bar (2012-2013). Phillip has also served as Vice President of the Alabama State Bar, as a three-term Bar Commissioner for the 10th Judicial Circuit, and as a Disciplinary Hearing Officer. He also served as President of the Young Lawyers Section of the Birmingham Bar Association, on the Executive Committee of the Birmingham Bar Association, and on the Birmingham Bar Association’s Grievance Committee. Phillip served on the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism and as chairman of the Judicial Liaison Committee.
Phillip has also been very active in giving back to his community through his pro bono leadership and extensive civic and charitable causes. He has served on the Vestavia Hills Park and Recreation Foundation Board, as past Chairman for the Substance and Abuse Committee for the City of Vestavia Hills, on the Board of Directors of Triumph Service (which provides community-based support to individuals with developmental disabilities who are trying to live independently) and also as a wrestling coach for the Vestavia Hills Wrestling Club.
Auburn University, graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and received his law degree from Cumberland School of Law. He has been admitted to practice law in Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.
